Weekly Dynasty Fantasy Football Strategy: Trade Tyler Warren If Rebuilding?

Jake Trowbridge is back with his weekly dynasty fantasy football mailbag, headlined by an inquiry on whether to trade Tyler Warren or not in a rebuild.

We’re back with some dynasty-themed questions from the always-delightful members of the Fantasy Life Community Discord (which you won’t regret joining).

This week, they asked about sleeper tight ends, how to handle the Patriots backfield and which hype trains to hop on or deboard. They also tried to activate my gag reflex by mentioning some players who should be ridden from dynasty discussions forever.

Let’s dig in…

Dynasty Fantasy Football Mailbag: Trades, Sleeper TEs and More

What does one have to offer to lift Tyler Warren off your hands if you’re rebuilding?

If Warren had continued his impressive 10-week stretch that opened the season, where he averaged 5 catches and 62 yards per game, I think he’d be valued above Colston Loveland. In my eyes, they’re at least neck-and-neck, especially after Michael Pittman’s departure and Alec Pierce’s recent injury.

But the rebuilding aspect of this is interesting. Warren is exactly the type of young cornerstone piece I’d like to build around if I *am* rebuilding. Regardless, I’m not giving Warren up for anything less than a very early 2027 1st, plus a little extra sugar for daddy’s sweet tooth.

Who do you like as a sleeper TE, for those who don’t want to pay up for Bowers, McBride or Loveland, etc.?

If Warren is still a little too rich for your tastes, let me once again extol the virtues of Greg Dulcich as a low-cost/high-ceiling tight end. The guy has a legitimate chance at the No 2 pass-catching role (behind De'von Achane) on the Dolphins offense. If not for those dastardly injuries, I believe folks would be flocking to Dulcich. But I’ve talked about the curly-haired dynamo far too much this offseason and the editors are going to take away my laptop if I keep this up.

So, I’ll also throw Brenton Strange into the mix. I understand the questions about the murky Jaguars receiving room, but it seems like Strange is being left completely in the dust by fantasy managers. Last year he had the seventh highest Yards Per Target among TEs and 12th highest YAC Per Reception. I don’t think Travis Hunter will ever be a consistently-used threat on the offense, and Strange is talented enough to earn plenty of targets among the remaining WRs.

Thoughts on Jordan Addison's dynasty value over the next 2-3 years?

A lot of Jordan Addison’s short-term dynasty value depends on who wins the QB battle in Minnesota. For all his flaws, the one thing Kyler Murray does well is pepper his No 1 target. That’s great news for Justin Jefferson but less so for Addison, especially since Jauan Jennings just came strolling into town. I’m afraid Addison won’t be too valuable unless he gets shipped off to a WR-needy team.

Would you sell Bhayshul Tuten on his preseason hype?

I’ve waffled back and forth on this. Where I’m at right now is that Liam Coen is very persistent in using his running backs, and Chris Rodriguez has one of those "ambiguous" foot injuries that can very easily become a big deal—remember Joe Mixon?

I’m willing to absorb Bhayshul Tuten’s risks because his upside is so tantalizing. I’d rather have him at cost over Cam Skattebo or TreVeyon Henderson. Speaking of …

Thoughts on having TreVeyon Henderson as your RB1 on a dynasty squad? Would you hold him or try to move him for a more proven RB? Unfortunately his market isn't too great right now …

I’m surprised to hear that TreVeyon Henderson’s dynasty market is so low in your neck of the woods considering he’s entering just his second year and is going in the fourth round in consensus redraft ADP. But that might speak more to the lack of top-tier RB talent than anything else.

I see potential for Henderson if he can become more trusted as a pass blocker, which he’s supposedly emphasizing this offseason. But as your RB1? Probably not. I’d rather move him for an older, established RB. Then again, I also don’t value the volatile RB position beyond a two-year window in dynasty unless the guy is a young and proven stud (Bijan Robinson, Jahmyr Gibbs, etc).

Are we buying or selling the Jonathon Brooks hype train?

First of all … is his first name spelled correctly? It can’t be. Is it not supposed to be two a’s instead of two o’s? I’m gonna need all Jons out there to weigh in on this pronto. (Editor’s Note: That spelling has driven us nuts, too, but that second “o” is correct.)

Anyway, Jonathon Brooks is still 22 years old for a few more weeks and we‘ve barely gotten to see what he can do on an NFL field. Here’s what my man Sam Wallace said about him in a recent profile:

“…there's substantial risk in trading for an RB coming off consecutive torn ACLs. Brooks could have lost a step that he is just unable to fully recover, and he could be relegated to nothing more than a change-of-pace option out of the backfield.”

But we’ve seen guys like this get left behind by the fantasy community before and resurrect their value. It happened with Javonte Williams just last year. So I’m willing to send a late-second or early-third rookie pick to find out if there’s some juice left to squeeze.

How much is Josh Jacobs honestly worth now?

I was already out on Josh Jacobs before the appalling allegations against him. He has the second-most carries of any active RB and it seemed to take a toll last year. I don’t know what the results of the allegations will be, or how the league will handle it, but I’m not waiting around to find out. If you can fetch a 2027 second, I’d personally move on.

How are we feeling about Deshaun Watson and Anthony Richardson? Obviously not big value, but there appears to be upside.

Deshaun Watson has zero value to me. Zilch. Nada. Even if we’re focusing strictly on what he’s done on the field, the guy hasn’t thrown for more than 1,200 yards in a season since *2020*. He also had one of the three lowest EPA per dropback marks of any QB over the past two seasons. It’s all very gross.

If Richardson gets traded to the Dolphins or Giants, maybe there’s some upside worth waiting around for. Otherwise, his time in the sun might be over.

Are there any second/third-string QBs you think will become viable starters in the next year or two?

The big one for me is Drew Allar. This is mercifully Aaron Rodgers’ last season, and Mike McCarthy loves to think of himself as a QB developer. Plus, the buzz around Allar is that he’s extremely “mold-able,” which is what every coach wants. I don’t know if he’ll be any good in reality, but the system should make him a worthwhile Superflex start once he takes over.
